SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Integrated steelmaker ArcelorMittal announced that its steelmaking facilities in Europe have achieved ResponsibleSteel certification- the first global multi-stake holder certification standard.
The company’s Geel, Genk, Gent and Liège sites in Belgium, Belval, Differdange and Rodange sites in Luxemboug and Bremen and Eisenhüttenstadt sites in Germany are the first steelmaking plants to obtain this coveted certification. The certification follows rigorous third-party audit, followed by final decision by an independent certification committee. The site preparations for the audit were carried out in partnership with international auditor AFNOR and its German subsidiary GUTcert.

The company intends to have more of its sites under ArcelorMittal Europe- Long Products to obtain ResponsibleSteel certification during 2022. Following this, the company sites across the globe will also become part of the certification programme.
Commenting on the achievement, Geert Van Poelvoorde said that the certification gives its customers the reassurance that the company meets expectations on setting carbon reduction targets and meeting expectations on ESG standards at every stage of steel production. He expressed confidence that each of its Flat Products sites will be able to secure the certification by 2022.
