ArcelorMittal Inaugurated its First Digital Lab in Dunkirk

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Integrated steelmaker ArcelorMittal announced inauguration of its first digital lab in Dunkirk, adjacent to its largest production facility in Europe. The lab is aimed at implementing digital innovation in steel industry and accelerating the steelmaker’s digital transformation.

The ArcelorMittal Digital Lab is housed in a renovated building and covers over 2,700 square metres. The lab will serve as a co-development centre to work with partners on digital projects and as a training centre of new digital technologies, not only for ArcelorMittal employees, but also for external people. In addition, it will also serve as a venue for co-hosting conferences and events.

The lab is scheduled to open its doors in September this year. It can host up to 200 people. It comprises 135 screens including 12 giant screens and 11 large touch screens. The lab will focus on safety at work, energy and the environment.

In his comments following the inauguration ceremony, Matthieu Jehl, CEO of ArcelorMittal France, said that the Digital Lab in Dunkirk will help the company one step further in its digital efforts by implementing new digital applications. The company has already developed many projects using augmented reality, big data and models in its industrial processes, which has positioned it as a leader in digitalisation.
