The workshop came to a consensus on a number of measures intended to produce both short-term and long-term effects, according to Angela Mayer, program manager at the Australian Packaging Covenant Organization (APCO). Strengthening the recycling systems by giving informal waste pickers more authority will be the main goal.
The necessity of growing Fiji's collection and recovery initiatives was acknowledged by the partners. Secondly, it suggested enhancing end-market accessibility through the efficient application of small-scale technology. Additionally, a deal was made to create a data transparency project that would enable efficient activity tracking, beginning with Fiji. Lastly, it underlined how important it is to start changing behavior and expanding recycling capabilities in other Pacific Island nations.
