Anglo American Copper Output Posted Notable Surge in Q4 2022

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Anglo American plc reported significant surge in quarterly copper output during the fourth quarter of the previous year. The output totalled 244,000 tonnes in Q4 2022, 52% higher when compared with the output a year before. The ramp-up of the Quellaveco copper mine in Peru contributed to the increased output.

The annual copper production totalled 664,000 tonnes in 2022. This is marginally higher by 3% from the production of 647,000 tonnes in 2021.

The company expects annual copper production to total 840-930, 000 tonnes during the current year. The Chilean production is largely dependent on availability of water as the country faces persistent drought conditions. Also, the ongoing political dilemma in Peru may affect production from that country as well. The country has been facing turbulent anti-government protests.

Commenting on the production results, Duncan Wanblad, Chief Executive of Anglo American said that primary focus of the company will be on ensuring a safe and stable platform for strengthened and repeatable operational performance, while progressing towards its previously stated sustainability goals. The much anticipated zero emissions haulage system will accelerate its journey to carbon-neutral operations by 2040, Wanblad added.
