SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Anglo American plc. announced first production of copper concentrate from its Quellaveco project in Peru. This is considered as a major milestone as the project is set to receive final regulatory approval to commence commercial operations at the project.
According to Tom McCulley, Development-In charge, Quellaveco project, the first copper production is a key milestone in the delivery of the world-class asset. The first production marks the beginning of testing the processing plant with ore and ramping up of mining activities.
The company reiterated its commitment to deliver the project on time and on budget. The first production comes after four from the date of project approval, including disruption for almost two years on account of Covid-19 pandemic. The timely completion of the project is a testament to the strength of its commitment to local communities and government stakeholders.
Upon full operation, the project is expected to deliver significant benefits, including approximately 2,500 direct jobs. It is expected to boost Peru’s overall copper production by around 10%.
