SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Aluminum Association, in its new survey, has revealed that aluminum continues to remain as the fastest growing automotive material. The survey was conducted by the Association’s Aluminum Transportation Group in partnership with DuckerFrontier. The aluminum content levels are forecast to reach 514 pounds per vehicle by 2026, much higher by 12% from 2020 levels.
According to Ganesh Panneer, Chairman, Aluminum Transportation Group, the use of aluminum is likely to see tremendous growth, in proportion with rise in consumer pressures and environmental challenges. The survey emphasizes increased growth potential for consumption of low-carbon, high-strength aluminum in electric vehicles segment. The automotive aluminum market penetration is expected to continue its decades-old growth in the forthcoming years, he added.
The survey indicates that automakers are likely to boost use of aluminum in new vehicles. The replacement of heavier steel parts with aluminum flat-rolled sheet will help auto manufacturers achieve mass reduction goals. The expansion of market for electrified vehicles will ensure higher demand for aluminum extrusions and high-pressure aluminum diecast parts, the survey found.
In short, aluminum is poised to report relentless demand growth until 2030.
