However, a second fire last November delayed that schedule.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Aluminum production at a New York plant affected by a fire more than four months ago has not yet fully resumed, which has particularly impacted Ford, specifically its production of its lucrative F-Series pickups, according to a report by Reuters.
Following the incident, Novelis, the company that owns the plant, said it expected to resume production at full capacity by the end of December. However, a second fire last November delayed that schedule.
The company boasts that it supplies about 50% of the aluminum required by the global automotive industry and estimates that the plant located in Oswego County serves 36% of assembly plants in the United States. However, the Reuters report does not indicate the current volumes of the manufacturing facility.
The blue oval brand previously revealed that due to the interruption in aluminum deliveries, pickup production would be reduced by up to 100,000 units during 2025, so it decided to suspend production of the electric variant, which was in lower demand.
Ford ultimately decided to discontinue production of the F-150 Lightning altogether, while increasing the volume of gasoline and Super Duty versions at its Michigan and Kentucky plants in 2026 to replenish its inventories.
