NEW DELHI (Scrap Monster): NALCO (National Aluminium Company Limited) restated that they were willing to supply hot metal to the Angul Aluminium Park, even though working at low capacity due to scarcity of coal for its captive power plant.
The proposed Angul Aluminium Park is the joint venture of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation and NALCO, which was sanctioned by the central government recently. The estimated cost for setting up the park is about Rs 125 crore. In the initial phase, the project is anticipated to draw investments of about Rs 500 crore.
Along with the central government nod, the project has got the agreement that the Department of Industrial and Policy of India would provide a grant-in-aid of Rs 43 crore for its physical infrastructure development and common utilities. IDCO (Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) has sought agreement from NALCO to supply raw material to the downstream units to be constructed in the Aluminium Park.
NALCO said in a statement that even though they were functioned at low capacities due to the scarcity of adequate supply of coal for its Captive Power Plant, the company had agreed to provide molten metal of about 50,000 tonnes per annum, initially to the proposed Angul Aluminium Park for the enhancement of downstream industries.
NALCO said that it might consider increasing the quantity once the Utkal-E coal block allotted to the company become operational. But, at present the coal block is going through difficulties and the company has requested the government officials to involve and make the process fast.
