The strategic collaboration combines ALPLA’s re-processing capabilities with Re-Purpose’s esteemed reverse logistics network.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The ALPLA Group announced strategic partnership with Re-Purpose towards strengthening of plastics value chain in South Africa. The partnership will invest approximately 60 million euros in constructing a state-of-the-art polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling facility in Ballito in the province of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa.

According to company news release, the construction of the plant, aimed at bolstering PET plastic recycling efforts in the country, is currently progressing well at the earmarked 22-acre site. The proposed plant is expected to commence operations in 2025. The recycling plant will have capacity to produce over 35,000 tonnes of recycled PET (rPET) every year. It aims to collect over 5,000 tons of PET every month, in order to ensure operation of the plant at full capacity beginning 2026.
The strategic collaboration combines ALPLA’s re-processing capabilities with Re-Purpose’s esteemed reverse logistics network. It will help ALPLA in expanding the portfolio of packaging solutions made from recycled PET material.
In addition to providing big boost to local economy, the plant promises to create large job opportunities in the region, while developing innovative solutions and promoting a circular economy.
