SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The 2024 Progress Report was released by the Alliance to End Plastic Waste (AEPW). The accomplishments throughout the previous five years are listed in the report. Furthermore, it presents a fresh plan to establish a plastics circular economy by 2030.
According to the report, since its inception in 2019, it has contributed to the reduction of about 240,000 tons of plastic trash and the recovery of value from over 253,000 tonnes of plastic garbage. The Alliance has taken part in initiatives to improve working conditions for informal garbage workers and assist women-owned enterprises. Up to 2,100 informal jobs have been created as a result of the numerous efforts related to this.
The study states that in order to enhance waste management and increase recycling rates, the alliance will now concentrate on a few markets. As a first step, it will collaborate with partners such as South African, Indonesian, and Indian governments and financial institutions to assist extensive integrated initiatives to remove obstacles to the circularity of plastics. Additionally, investments in high-impact waste management technologies will be the main focus.
