Alcoa Entered Into Supply Agreement for Low-Carbon Primary Aluminum

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based Alcoa Corporation announced that it will supply low-carbon primary aluminum to Germany-based Erbslöh Aluminium. The company has reached an agreement to supply EcoLum- the company’s primary aluminum with a low-carbon footprint 3.5 times better than the industry average. Erbslöh Aluminium will use it for its new NEWTRAL brand of semi-finished extrusion alloys.

According to the company, EcoLum is part of its Sustana line of low-carbon products. It offers no more than 4 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions for every ton of metal produced, inclusive of both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, across the entire production chain.

The new brand of alloys by Erbslöh Aluminium focuses on reducing carbon emissions for a wide range of industries including automotive, industrial, consumer electronics, etc. It will help downstream industries to improve the environmental footprint of their products and supply chain.

Adam Smith, Vice President of Aluminum Sales and Trading at Alcoa noted that its Sustana line of products continues to see growing interest among consumers focused on sustainability.

Earlier this year, Alcoa had entered into a partnership with RONAL Group towards supply of a combination of EcoLum and ELYSIS zero-carbon smelting technology.
