The year-to-date total and finished steel imports were down 4.7% and 7.8% respectively upon comparison with 2024.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. Census Bureau's latest statistics indicates that in June of this year, 2.246 million net tons of steel were imported. This represents a noteworthy drop of 9.6% from the previous month. In addition, finished steel imports decreased by 7.6% to 1.643 million net tons in May 2025.
Reinforcing bars and wire rods were the finished steel products with the largest increase in import volumes, with import volumes up 71% and 41%, respectively, from May 2025. Additionally, month over month, imports of cut length plates rose by 26%. The top offshore suppliers during the month were South Korea, Vietnam, Mexico, Canada, and Brazil.
Compared to 2024, the year-to-date total and finished steel imports decreased 4.7% and 7.8%, respectively.
Overall steel imports decreased by 1.2% and finished steel imports declined by 1.6% during the 12-month period from July 2024 to June 2025.
In June of this year, 19% of the market was made up of imported finished steel, according to AISI data.
Imports of wire rods and tin plates increased over the July 2024–June 2025 12-month period compared to the preceding 12-month period. These items had increases in imports of 84% and 17%, respectively.
