AISI: Steel Shipments Soared 4.4%

The steel shipments by the U.S. mills totalled 8.472 million net tons during the month of August this year.

AISI: Steel Shipments Soared 4.4%

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The August 2019 steel shipments by U.S. mills surged higher from the prior month. The shipments were up marginally when compared with the same month a year before. This is in accordance with the latest statistics published by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The steel shipments by the U.S. mills totalled 8.472 million net tons during the month of August this year. This is higher by 4.4% from the previous month. The shipments had totalled 8.115 million net tons during July 2019. When compared with the year-before month, the shipments recorded marginal increase by 0.4%. It must be noted that the U.S. steel mills had shipped 8.442 million net tons of steel in August 2018.

The AISI report also provides comparison of August 2019 shipments with the prior month. Upon comparison with July this year, the shipments of hot rolled sheets posted notable surge by 10%. The other product to witness notable increase in shipment volume was hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, whose volumes were up by 7%. Also, cold rolled sheet shipment volumes reported 3% surge over July 2019.

According to AISI data, the year-to-date steel shipments totalled 64.810 million net tons in 2019. This is marginally higher by 1.8% when matched with the corresponding period in 2018. The shipments had totalled 63.657 million net tons during the first eight months of the previous year.
