SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today announced the release of its 2022 Annual Statistical Report (ASR), which provides comprehensive data on the American steel industry and select data on the North American steel industry as a whole.
“The steel industry is constantly evolving, and AISI’s statistics continue to remain at the forefront,” said AISI President and CEO, Kevin Dempsey. “Our Annual Statistical Report (ASR) is comprehensive and remains the industry standard for reporting on the steel industry in the United States. I highly recommend this essential resource for anyone interested in steel industry data.”
The report highlights that, in 2022, shipments from domestic steel mills measured 89.5 million net tons (NT), down 5.5 percent from the previous year. U.S. raw steel production was 94.7 million net tons in 2022, a 6.2 percent decrease from 2021. The report also shows that total steel imports into the United States decreased by 2.0 percent in 2022 compared to the previous year, while finished steel imports increased by 11.0 percent over the same period and captured a 24 percent share of apparent steel consumption. The report also notes that the construction and automotive industries continued as the leading end-use markets for shipments of U.S. steel products.
The AISI ASR report is the most comprehensive reference of its kind, providing extensive coverage of the American steel industry and selected statistical data on the Canadian, Mexican and world steel industries. It features dozens of charts and graphs, including selected statistical highlights on shipments, apparent supply, imports, employment and raw steel data over a 10-year period; selected financial highlights; shipments by products and markets over a 10-year period; raw steel production (including selected state-level production data) and capability utilization; and detailed imports and exports data.
