U.S. Raw Steel Output Ended May on a Positive Note

Over the course of the week, the United States produced 1.757 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): In the week ending May 31, 2025, U.S. weekly raw steel production increased by about 2.8%, according to the most current weekly domestic production numbers released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). This was based on a comparison between this week and the same week last year.
The United States produced 1.757 million net tons (NT) of domestic raw steel during the week. The capacity of the domestic mills was 78.2%. Remember that production was 1.709 million NT during the same week last year, with a little lower capacity utilization rate of 76.9%.

Compared to the previous week, which concluded on May 24, 2025, when crude steel output reached 1.744 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 77.6%, the production for the week ending May 31, 2025, increased by 0.7%.

With 793,000 net tons, the Southern region produced the most. 532,000 net tons were generated during the week in the Great Lakes region. North East-131, Midwest-235, and Western-66 are the other regions' productions (in thousand net tons).

With a capability utilization rate of 75.3%, the adjusted year-to-date output as of May 31, 2025, was 36.287 million net tons. Compared to the same period in 2024, when production was 36.461 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 76.1%, this indicates a 0.5% reduction.
