Lourenco Goncalves congratulated this year’s remarkable Institute Medal recipients.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) presented the 2025 Institute Medal- the Institute’s highest technical award.
The prestigious award was won by Sirisha Parvathaneni and Marcelo W. Andrade of ArcelorMittal Global R&D Laboratories for their paper “CFD Modeling of the Industrial-Scale Bottom-Fired Direct Reduced Iron Reforming Process”.
The award was presented by Lourenco Goncalves, AISI Chairman and the Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., during the recently held AISI’s 2025 General Meeting in Washington, D.C.

The Finalist Metals were awarded to Jiahao Cheng and Xiaohua Hu from Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and Narayan S. Pottore, Brian Lin, Sriram Sadagopan and Hong Zhu from ArcelorMittal Global R&D Laboratories, for their collaborative paper titled “A Mesoscale Crystal Plasticity Model to Predict Room-Temperature Deformation and Martensitic Transformation of High Strength Quenching and Partitioning (Q&P) Steels and Validation with Synchrotron X-Ray Diffraction.”
Technical papers with exceptional value and significance in relation to the operations and interests of the iron and steel industry are eligible to receive the Institute Medal and two Finalist Medals.
