SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Packaging Papers Monthly Report for April 2025 was published by the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA).
The total shipments of packaging sheets and specialty packaging increased by about 3% during the month compared to the same period previous year. The operating rate for bleached packaging paper increased by 1.9% year over year. According to AF&PA, food wrapping shipments in April 2025 totaled 27,700 short tons, a 6.6% increase over the same month the previous year.

The report states that in April 2025, the total shipments of printing and writing paper had a 3% decrease from the previous year. The shipments during the initial four-month period of the year were down by 3% when matched with Jan-Apr ’24.
Uncoated Free Sheet (UFS), Coated Free Sheet (CFS), and Mechanical (MECH) paper exports in the United States recorded mixed trend month over month during the month. UFS shipments decreased by 11.4% month over month, while CFS shipments decreased by 4.9. Conversely, exports of MECH sheets increased by 10.8% from the month before.
According to the AF&PA study, MECH and CFS shipments increased while UFS shipments decreased so far this year.
