AF&PA: Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Spiked in February

AF&PA: Printing-Writing Paper Shipments Spiked in February

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) released its February 2022 Printing-Writing monthly report.

The total printing-writing paper shipments in February this year recorded marginal increase by 2%, compared to February 2021. The U.S. purchases of printing-writing paper registered a jump by 7% during the month year-on-year. The inventory levels witnessed 1% dip over the prior month.

The purchases of uncoated free sheet (UFS) increased 5%, compared to February 2021. The UFS imports and exports both witnessed significant decline, falling by 16% and 28% respectively, when compared with the prior month. The inventory level was down by 2%, compared to January 2022.

The U.S. shipments of coated free sheet (CFS) papers increased by 8% year-on-year, whereas the inventory level increased 1% month-on-month. CFS imports skyrocketed by 43%, while exports were down significantly by 23%. Meantime, the coated mechanical (CM) paper purchases dropped 9% from February 2021 and the inventory level edged higher by 1% from the prior month.

According to AF&PA report, the U.S. shipments of uncoated mechanical (UM) papers remained more or less flat in February this year. The inventory level was up by 4%. The imports and exports of UM were up by 2% and 25% respectively over the prior year.
