NEW YORK (Scrap Monster): Eco International LLC-a local electronics recycler in Stage Road, Vestal will be closing its doors on December 31st, 2013. The company filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the New York State Labor Department on Friday.
Eco International has cited economic reasons for closure of the plant. The plant shutdown will affect all 82 workers. According to the filing, the layoffs will occur between Nov 8th and December 31st. The company officials declined to comment.
Eco International LLC began as a glass recycler in the early 1990s. The company has over 20 years experience in the electronics recycling industry that started with collaboration between International Business Machines (IBM), Digital Equipment and TECHNEGLAS to find a recycling solution for cathode ray tubes (CRT’s). Through the years, Eco International LLC expanded and developed processes to recycle all types of post consumer e-waste. The 23,000-square-foot recycling facility in Vestal, New York facility is spread over 3.1-acre land.
According to WARN Act, private businesses in New York with 50 or more full time workers are required to give 90 days’ notice before plant closure.
