DRI production statistics

The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in September this year has declined marginally by nearly 1% when compared with the month before that.

The world DRI production during the month of September 2016 totaled 4.492 million metric tons, compared with the 4.534 million metric tons production achieved during August this year.

According to World Steel data, Iran ranked first in DRI production, closely followed by India. Mexico was the third largest DRI producer nation in September this year.

The estimated DRI output by Iran during September this year was 1.431 million metric tons. The country’s DRI output in September surged higher by 6.4% when compared with the previous month. The DRI output by Iran had totaled 1.345 million metric tons during the previous month. India’s DRI production in September 2016 totaled 1.195 million metric tons, which is marginally lower by 3.24% when compared with the previous month output of 1.235 million metric tons. The Mexican DRI output in September this year amounted to 470,000 metric tons, which is modestly lower when compared with the output of 484,000 metric tons during August 2016.

The DRI output (in thousand metric tons) by the other eleven countries in September 2016 is as follows: Canada (139), Saudi Arabia (400), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (18), Peru (2), Venezuela (35), Egypt (210), Libya (57), South Africa (50), Qatar (190) and United Arab Emirates (296).
