Russia's UC Rusal to invest over $3 mn in Yaroslavsk GRK this year

MOSCOW (Scrap Monster): United Company RUSAL (SEHK: 0486), Russia's major aluminium producer, has aimed to invest over $3.07 million into the development and modernization of Yaroslavsk GRK this year.

The funds will enable the refurbishment of existing equipment as well as the purchase of new machinery and will also be spent on carrying out stripping operations.

Yaroslavsk produces between 9,500 and 10,000 metric tons per month of fluorspar concentrate, covering over 60% of Rusal's needs.

The concentrate is supplied to Rusal's smelters and monthly production is expected to increase to 11,000 metric tons in 2012.

In addition, Yaroslavsk manufactures and sells about 900 metric tons/month of zinc concentrate to third-party customers.

As per Rusal's commercial director Evgeny Ovchinnikov, “Given the current situation in the global economy and within the aluminum industry itself, issues such as business efficiency, cost reduction and safety of raw materials can be looked to be solved by the assets' consolidation and implementation of lean manufacturing policies.Integration of Yaroslavsk GRK into the structure of UC Rusal will provide the ore company with additional stability and the ability to withstand adverse economic challenges.”
