ISRI launches upgraded version of ScrapTheftAlert.com

WASHINGTON (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has announced the launch of re-designed and improved version of www.ScrapTheftAlert.com, which it claims, will help police and recyclers to combat metal theft incidents more efficiently.

According to Robin Wiener, President, ISRI the improved system is the outcome of the feedback received from various law enforcement partners. He added that the revised site with a more robust alert system will further strengthen the relationship between recyclers and police personnel.

The new design provides simpler user interface for new user registration and submission of alerts. It has also added more categories of materials including vehicles, batteries, cargo etc. The search option now includes advanced features such as filtering by Alert ID, location, range, materials involved or title description. The customers can also select multiple locations to receive alerts. Also, many duplicate accounts are being merged into one.

The new alert submission process asks some preliminary questions that will ‘enable’ or ‘disable’ additional sections of the theft report. Customers are allowed to review or edit the information before submission. Upon completion of submission, the alert will be reviewed prior to being broadcast.

The original website launched by the ISRI in 2008 has so far resulted in 235 arrests over scrap metal theft and has recovered more than $1.3 million worth property.
