Global DRI output declines 11% y-o-y in Jan-Aug: worldsteel

BRUSSELS (Scrap Monster): Global direct reduced iron (DRI) output declined sharply by 13% year-on-year to 4.66 million metric tons in August this year and down by 0.85% month-on-month, as per the latest data released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

According to the worldsteel data, global DRI output dropped 11% year-on-year to 37.9 million metric tons in the first eight months of this year.

The worldsteel data show that India was the largest DRI producer among the countries surveyed in August and in the January- August period of this year.

India's estimated DRI output was 13.4 million metric tons in the eight seven months of this year, down 26.6 percent year-on-year. India was followed by Iran, Mexico and Saudi Arabia in the first eight months of the year, with estimated outputs of 7.4 million mt, 3.6 million mt and 3.45 million mt respectively.
