European petrochemical production hugely hit by devastating floods

BERLIN (Scrap Monster) : The petrochemical production and distribution in several Central European nations have been disrupted by heavy floods across the region.

The PS, PVC and PE industries across several countries including Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania are reported to be struggling due to incessant rains and  devastating floods that lashed out in these regions a few days back.

Major companies in Poland have declared force majeure at their production facilities which is expected to continue until next week. A key petrochemical facility in the Czech Republic has reported flood waters in their power plant, leading to disruptions of operations. Similar incidents are being reported from Italy too.

Not only production but also shipments are affected. The floods are reported to have badly affected rail and road deliveries. The truck shipments in Germany are almost paralyzed. The trucks are being recalled mainly on safety concerns. The rail deliveries in Austria are reported to have been disrupted.

There are fears of the flood spreading to Balkan countries, which would further worsen the situation.
