worldsteel Open Forum to Focus on Fighting Steel Industry Emissions

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The inaugural worldsteel Open Forum will be held in Brussels on 4th and 5th October, 2022. It will present the efforts undertaken by the steel industry to reduce its emissions and join the global movement to reach the various ambitious climate goals set by the Paris Agreement.

According to Asa Ekdahl, Head of Environment and Climate Change, World Steel Association (worldsteel), the industry still faces various challenges including access to and affordability of low-carbon input materials and financing options for the transition, in its journey to emissions reduction.

The inaugural edition of the Open Forum will seek to address these challenges. Moreover, it will engage with other industry stakeholders including equipment manufacturers, suppliers, related industries, financial institutions and academia. The Forum will narrate the efforts undertaken by the steel industry and initiate discussions on several pressing topics of interest to industry stakeholders.

The industry body see the Open Forum as a starting point of a great climatic conversation between all the members of the steel industry ecosystem. The two days of intense discussions will feature exchange of perspectives and thought-provoking new ideas that will propel the steel industry’s low-carbon journey.
