SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Russian wood pellet exports touched record high level during the initial six-month period of the current year. The increased shipments to South Korea, the UK, Belgium and Denmark offset the dip in shipments to Sweden.
The exports totalled 977,000 t in January to June this year, significantly higher by 14.4% over the previous year. The shipments stood higher by over 46%, compared with the average half-yearly shipments during the past four years, which stood at 668,000 t. In the second quarter alone, the shipments surged higher by 10%. The June 2020 shipments skyrocketed by 22.4%, said trade data.

The largest importer of Russian wood pellet supply in H1 2020 was Denmark. The deliveries to that country were up by 7.7% from 362,000 t to 390,000 t. The Russian shipments to Belgium almost doubled from a year before to 107,000 t. The third largest recipient of Russian pellets was South Korea, which imported 102,000 t. The deliveries to the UK surged higher by approximately 60% to 91,000 t.
On the contrary, the shipments to Sweden recorded sharp decline, falling from 114,000 t in H1 2019 to 51,000 t in H1 2020. Also, the exports to the Netherlands slipped by 22% year-on-year to 46,000 t in the first half of the year.
