BEIJING (Scrap Monster): According to latest government statistics, Taiwan’s Wire rod imports surged significantly higher during the month of April this year. The average import prices declined during the month.
The country’s wire rod imports totaled 26,835 tons during the month, 21.5% higher over the previous month. However, the import prices averaged at NT$18,284 per ton. The import prices were down by NT$96 per ton when compared with the average price of NT$18,920 per ton during March this year.
On the other hand, the wire rod exports by Taiwan were down during the month of April this year. The total exports of wire rod amounted to 20,233 tons during the month, falling by 4.6% from the previous month. The export prices averaged at NT$21,209 per ton. The import prices were down by NT$544 per ton when compared with the average price of NT$21,753 per ton during March this year.
Meanwhile, major Taiwanese wire rod manufacturers had announced their decision to leave the May prices unchanged. Taiwanese Feng Hsin, Yieh Hsing and Quintain Steel had announced that May prices will remain flat over the previous month.
