Weyerhaeuser Hit by Workers' Strike at Oregon and Washington

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser Company announced work stoppage at its Oregon and Washington operations. The stoppage, which came into effect on 13th September, 2022, involves members belonging to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union. The action is believed to have impacted the operations at both these facilities.

Commenting on the development, Denise Merle, senior vice president and chief administration officer for Weyerhaeuser noted that the company has been engaged in collective bargaining with IAM since May this year. It has made several offers to the union related to wages and benefits. The company had submitted its final offer, after which the union workers at multiple sites went on strike, he noted.

Weyerhaeuser noted that it is very disappointed in the union’s decision to walk out. At the same time, it is committed to supporting its employees and negotiating in good faith with union representatives. Furthermore, it expressed willingness to continue discussions to produce a contract that is beneficial for employees and sustainable for the company. The company noted that it will closely work with customers and other regional partners to minimize supply disruptions.
