SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Weyerhaeuser- the American timberland company announced plans to invest $96.2 million towards modernization and decarbonisation of its Win Parish lumber mill near Shreveport.
The modernization project comprises of installation of three Continuous Dry Kilns, a low-carbon process drying system, trimmer, sorter and stacker. It will lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and maintenance costs, as well as increased drying capacity and improved mill efficiency.
According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), the investment will help the company retain 157 direct jobs and maintain an associated annual payroll in excess of $13 million. The investment in the updated technology will boost overall safety, productivity and product reliability.
Commenting on the investment, Gov. John Bel Edwards said that state is proud to announce another multi-million dollar investment in its booming timber industry. The reinvestment by Weyerhaeuser is a win not only for Winn Parish and Louisiana’s agribusiness sector but also on the rural communities. The modernization will preserve hundreds of existing jobs, Edwards added.
