WestRock Decided to Lay Off 130 Workers at St. Paul Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): WestRock Company announced its decision to shut down a part of its giant St. Paul, Minnesota cardboard factory. The decision is likely to eliminate several jobs at the facility. Meantime, the coated recycled board production from the facility will remain unaffected.
The company noted that the corrugated medium machinery at the St. Paul plant would require significant capital investment to uphold its current operations and make further improvements in future. The proposed shutdown will reduce the production of corrugated medium by at least 200,000 tons per year. Also, the closure will result in elimination of around 130 jobs. The affected workers will be eligible to receive severance pay and job assistance as per company policy and in accordance with labor union agreement.
Announcing the decision, David B. Sewell, chief executive officer, WestRock noted that the decision to shut down operations was a difficult one to take, as it impacts the lives of its employees. He appreciated the valuable contributions made by the team over the past several years. The employees impacted by the decision will be provided all possible assistance to relocate to similar roles in other company locations or explore new jobs outside.
