Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- May 23, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The following report provides the weekly global market price trends for the various scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of May 16 to May 22, 2025:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a modest increase of 2.76% in copper scrap prices.

North America

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price rose by 2.70%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing closed at $4.47 per pound, up 2.76% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing went up from $4.25 to $4.37 per pound, a 2.82% rise.

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index increased by 2.70% for the week, from $4.45 to $4.57 per pound, as of Thursday, May 22, 2025. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing's price increased slightly from $4.35 to $4.47 per pound over the previous week. By the end of the week, the average price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had gone up by 2.82% to $4.37 per pound.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price has gone up by 2.76%. At the end of the week, #1 Copper Wire & Tubing went up from $4.25 to $4.37 per pound, a 2.82% rise. In the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category, the price of copper scrap went up by 2.89%. Over the course of the week, the price per pound of the commodity rose from $4.15 to $4.27.

USA West Coast

Over the course of the week, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright climbed by 1.08%, from $4.63 to $4.68 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing increased by 1.10 percent last week. #2 Copper Wire and Tubing increased 1.13% from $4.43 to $4.48 per pound by the end of the preceding week.

China

The previous week, which concluded on May 23, 2025, saw a slight decline in the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index. At CNY 76,900 per MT, the weekly ending price was less than the previous week's price of CNY 71,150 per MT. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing decreased by 0.34% from the previous week. Additionally, at the end of the week, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped by 0.35%, from CNY 72,450 per MT to CNY 72,200 per MT.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing remained at $5,200 per tonne on the Index, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained constant during the week ending May 22, 2025.

Brass Scrap Prices

The price of brass scrap went up by 0.73% over the previous week.

North America

By the end of the week, Red Brass had increased from $2.82 to $2.84 per pound. On the Index, Yellow Brass also saw a slight gain. The product's price went up by 0.75 percent, from $2.67 to $2.69 per pound.

Over the last week, Red Brass's price increased by 0.71%. At the end of the week, Yellow Brass's price per pound also went up from $2.67 to $2.69.

USA Midwest

Red Brass's price rose 0.71% from the previous week, from $2.81 to $2.83 per pound. The Index also showed a rise in the price of yellow brass. The price of the commodity grew by 0.76%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was up 0.70% from the previous week, trading at $2.89 a pound as of Thursday, May 22, 2025. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound increased by 0.74% from the previous week.

China

During the week ending May 22, 2025, the prices of Red Brass and Yellow Brass remained stable. According to the Index, the price of Red Brass remained constant at CNY 38,300 per MT from week to week, while the price of Yellow Brass remained constant at CNY 35,450 per MT.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal decline of 0.45% over the previous week.

North America

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire saw a little decrease of 1.79% from the previous week. In the week ending May 22, 2025, the price of 6063 Extrusions remained constant at $0.88 per pound. The price of Old Cast on the Index didn't fluctuate from week to week. Additionally, UBC's prices remained unchanged from the week before.

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire reported a slight decline of 179%, falling from $1.12 per pound to $1.10 per pound. During the week ending May 22, 2025, the price of 6063 Extrusions was flat when compared to the previous week. The Index showed that the price of Old Cast has held steady. Additionally, UBC's prices witnessed no variation on the Index during the previous week.

USA Midwest

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has decreased by 1.79% since a week ago. Last week, the commodity's price closed at $1.10 per pound, down from $1.12 per pound the week before. In the meantime, 6063 Extrusions' price remained the same as it had the week before. According to the ScrapMonster Index, the prices of UBC and Old Cast were unchanged from the previous week.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire's price witnessed a marginal decline from $1.12 per pound to $1.10 per pound over the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that the price of 6063 Extrusions witnessed no change week-on-week. The prices of Old Cast in the Index were flat over the week. Additionally, UBC's pricing too held steady as of May 22, 2025.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices ended the week at CNY 19,100 per MT, a little increase of 0.53% over the previous week. Additionally, the price of 6063 Extrusions increased by 0.56% from the previous week. The price of Old Cast was up 0.56% on the Index as of May 22, 2025. UBC prices rose from CNY 12,300 per MT to CNY 12,350 per MT on the Index over the week.

Europe

The price of Old Cast was flat at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. The ScrapMonster Index also shows that UBC prices remained same from the previous week at $1,250 per tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded no change over the previous week’s prices.

North America

According to weekly pricing trend, an analysis of 304 SS revealed no change in the commodity's price over the previous week, remaining stable at $0.64 per pound.

The preceding week, which ended on May 23, 2025, saw no change in the price of 304 SS Solid. The commodity's price was flat at $0.64 per pound.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices recorded no variation week-over-week. The prices ended the week at $0.64 per Lb on the Index.

USA West Coast

For the week ending May 23, 2025, 304 SS solid prices stayed flat at $0.64 a pound.

China

The price of 304 SS Solid decreased somewhat during the week. In the week of May 22, 2025, the stated price of the commodity fell from CNY 10,200 per MT to CNY 10,150 per MT.

Europe

The price of 304 SS Solid did not change from the previous week's price of $1,070 per ton.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

The price of the #1 HMS hasn't moved in the past week. The price of the commodity stayed at $335 per MT. Furthermore, during the week, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap stayed constant at $370 per MT. As the previous week, the price of HMS 80/20 was $275 per MT. Likewise, the price of #1 Busheling didn't change during the week.

USA Midwest

The prices of #1 HMS have not altered in the past week. Shredded Auto Scrap was likewise flat during the week. The HMS 80/20 pricing for the Index stayed at $275 per MT. #1 Busheling remained at $430 per MT in the week ending May 22, 2025.

USA West Coast

Over the previous week, there has been no change in the #1 HMS price. The commodity's price remained constant at $335 per MT. Additionally, rates for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $370 per MT during the course of the week. HMS 80/20 pricing remained constant at $275 per MT from the previous week. Additionally, the price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged at $430 per MT throughout the week.

China

The #1 HMS prices remained unchanged from the previous week. The price of the commodity held steady at CNY 1,630 per MT.

Europe

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 HMS stayed consistent throughout the week at about $170 per MT. As in the previous week, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap remained constant at $130 per MT during the week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

Throughout the week, the price per ton of scrap auto batteries stayed at $820, which was the same as the week before.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded no change in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast were unchanged at $0.76 per Lb. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise witnessed no change on the Index. As of Thursday, May 22, 2025, the price of the commodity was $0.64 a pound.
