Weekly Scrap Metal Price Report- May 2, 2025

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The weekly global market price trends for the different scrap metal categories on the Scrap Monster Price Index for the week of April 24–May 1, 2025, are given in the report that follows:

Copper Scrap Prices

Over the previous week, there was a modest decline of 5.21% in copper scrap prices.

North America

Over the past week, the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright decreased by 5.10%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing ended the week at $4.37 per pound, down 5.21% from the beginning of the week. Similarly, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing had a $0.24 drop in price per pound, from $4.51 to $4.27.

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the ScrapMonster Index dropped 5.10% for the week, from $4.71 to $4.47 per pound, as of Thursday, May 1, 2025. Over the preceding week, the price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing decreased somewhat, from $4.61 to $4.37 per pound. By the end of the week, #2 Copper Wire and Tubing was selling for $4.27 per pound, a little decrease of 5.32%.

USA Midwest

Over the past week, #1 Copper Bare Bright's price has decreased by 5.21%. #1 Copper Wire & Tubing dropped from $4.51 to $4.27 per pound at the conclusion of the week, a slight 5.32% decrease. In the #2 Copper Wire and Tubing category, the price of copper scrap decreased by 5.44%. Throughout the week, the price per pound of the commodity dropped from $4.41 to $4.17.

USA West Coast

The price of #1 Copper Bare Bright dropped 5.01% over the course of the week, from $4.79 to $4.55 per pound, according to the ScrapMonster Index. The price of #1 Copper Wire and Tubing decreased by 5.12% last week. The price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped by 5.23% from $4.59 to $4.35 per pound by the conclusion of the previous week.

China

The previous week, which concluded on May 1, 2025, saw a minor decrease in the price of #1 Copper Bare Bright on the Index. The commodity's weekly closing price was CNY 76,450 per MT, which was less than the price of CNY 76,650 per MT the week before. The price of #1 Copper Wire & Tubing decreased by 0.27% over the previous week. Additionally, at the end of the week, the price of the Index's #2 Copper Wire and Tubing dropped from CNY 71,950 per MT to CNY 71,750 per MT, a 0.28% decrease.

Europe

The weekly price of #1 Copper Bare Bright stayed at $6,000 per tonne from the week before. #1 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained at $5,200 per tonne, unchanged from the previous week. Furthermore, the price of #2 Copper Wire and Tubing on the Index remained flat during the week ending May 1, 2025.

Brass Scrap Prices

Prices for scrap brass decreased somewhat from the previous week, by 2.17%.

North America

By the end of the week, Red Brass saw a drop from $2.85 to $2.79 per pound. On the Index, Yellow Brass also saw a slight decline. The commodity's price fell by 2.29%, from $2.70 to $2.64 a pound.

The price of Red Brass dropped 2.11% in the past week. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound decreased from $2.70 to $2.64 toward the conclusion of the week.

USA Midwest

The price of red brass dropped from $2.84 to $2.78 per pound, a 2.11% decrease from the previous week. Yellow Brass prices also decreased, according to the Index. The commodity's price dropped by 2.26%.

USA West Coast

Red Brass was down 2.07% from the previous week, trading at $2.84 a pound as of Thursday, May 1, 2025. Additionally, Yellow Brass's price per pound decreased by 2.21% from the previous week.

China

Red Brass and Yellow Brass prices declined marginally in the week ending May 1, 2025. The Index shows that the price of Yellow Brass fell 0.14% week over week to conclude at CNY 35,250 per MT, while the price of Red Brass crept down from CNY 38,150 per MT to CNY 38,100.

Aluminum Scrap Prices

The Index's aluminum scrap prices recorded marginal decline of 0.97% over the previous week.

North America

In comparison to the previous week, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire remained stable at $1.08 per pound. In comparison to the previous week, the price of 6063 Extrusions had a little decrease of 1.15% in the week ending May 1, 2025. On the Index, Old Cast's price dropped by 1.37%. In addition, UBC's prices decreased by 1.35% from the previous week.

The price of E.C. Aluminum Wire recorded no variation on the Index during the previous week. During the week ending May 1, 2025, the price of 6063 Extrusions was down by 1.15% compared to the previous week. The Index showed that the price of Old Cast has decreased by 1.37%. Additionally, UBC's prices witnessed a fall of 1.35% on the Index during the previous week.

USA Midwest

Since a week ago, the price of E.C. Aluminum Wire has remained constant. The commodity's price remained at $1.08 per pound last week, unchanged from the previous week. Meanwhile, the price of 6063 Extrusions dropped by 1.18% from the previous week. Both Old Cast and UBC had slight price declines of 1.41% and 1.37%, respectively, from the previous week, according to the ScrapMonster Index.

USA West Coast

E.C. Aluminum Wire's price witnessed no change from $1.08 per pound over the previous week. The ScrapMonster Index indicates that the price of 6063 Extrusions dropped by 1.15%. The prices of Old Cast in the Index were down by 1.35% over the week. Additionally, UBC's pricing decreased by 1.33% to $0.74 per pound as of May 1, 2025.

China

E.C. Aluminum Wire prices remained flat at CNY 18,800 per MT, when compared with the previous week. Also, upon comparison with the prior week, the price of 6063 Extrusions held steady at CNY 17,700 per MT. As of May 1, 2025, Old Cast's price on the Index witnessed no change. Over the course of the week, UBC prices also were constant at CNY 12,200 per MT on the Index.

Europe

The price of Old Cast was flat at $1,050 per tonne for the entire week. The ScrapMonster Index also shows that UBC prices remained same from the previous week at $1,250 per tonne.

Stainless Steel Scrap Prices 

The prices of Stainless Steel scrap recorded marginal decline by 1.56% over the previous week’s prices.

North America

An analysis of 304 SS showed a slight decrease in the commodity’s price, down by 1.56% over the previous week, according to weekly pricing trend. The price of the commodity was $0.63 per pound at the conclusion of the week.

The preceding week, which ended on May 1, 2025, saw a minor drop in the price of 304 SS Solid. The commodity's price dropped from $0.64 to $0.63 per pound.

USA Midwest

304 SS Solid prices recorded nominal decline week-over-week. The prices were down by $0.01 per Lb to close the week at $0.63 per Lb on the Index.

USA West Coast

For the week ending May 1, 2025, 304 SS solid prices dropped 1.56% to $0.63 a pound.

China

Over the course of the week, the price of 304 SS Solid slightly decreased. The product's stated price decreased from CNY 10,250 per MT to CNY 10,150 per MT in the week ending May 1, 2025.

Europe

The price of 304 SS Solid did not change from the previous week's price of $1,070 per ton.

Steel Scrap Prices

Steel Scrap prices reported no change when compared with the previous week.

North America

Over the previous week, the #1 HMS's price has remained unchanged. The commodity's price remained steady at $365 per MT. In addition, the cost of Shredded Auto Scrap remained steady at $410 per MT over the week. The price of HMS 80/20 was $300 per MT, the same as the week before. In addition, #1 Busheling's price remained constant throughout the week.

The ScrapMonster Index indicates that #1 HMS's prices stayed steady during the week at $365 per MT. The weekly pricing for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged from $410 per MT the week before. The price of HMS 80/20 was unchanged at $300 per MT for the duration of the week. The Index's #1 Busheling prices remained constant as well.

USA Midwest

Over the previous week, #1 HMS's prices have remained unchanged. During the week, Shredded Auto Scrap was also flat. The Index's HMS 80/20 pricing remained at $300 per MT. In the week ending May 1, 2025, the price of #1 Busheling stayed at $455 per MT.

USA West Coast

Over the previous week, there has been no change in the #1 HMS price. The commodity's price remained constant at $365 per MT. Additionally, rates for Shredded Auto Scrap remained unchanged at $410 per MT during the course of the week. HMS 80/20 pricing remained constant at $300 per MT from the previous week. Additionally, the price of #1 Busheling remained unchanged at $455 per MT throughout the week.

China

Over the previous week, there was no variation in #1 HMS prices. At CNY 1,630 per MT, the commodity's price remained stable.

Europe

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of #1 HMS stayed consistent throughout the week at about $170 per MT. As in the previous week, the price of Shredded Auto Scrap remained constant at $130 per MT during the week.

Lead Scrap Prices

Prices for lead scrap were stable as compared to the previous week.

North America

The Scrap Auto Batteries pricing charts showed that the commodity's prices had not moved from the week before. The price per pound stayed steady at $0.22 for the entire week.

According to the ScrapMonster Index, the price of Scrap Auto Batteries stayed constant at $0.22 per pound during the week.

China

There has been no change in the index's Scrap Auto Battery pricing during the past week. During the week ending Thursday, May 1, 2025, the commodity's price remained constant at CNY 6,850 per MT.

Europe

Throughout the week, the price per ton of scrap auto batteries stayed at $820, which was the same as the week before.

Zinc Scrap Prices

Zinc Scrap prices recorded marginal decline by 1.46% in prices week-on-week.

North America

The price of New Zinc Die Cast were down by 1.33% to close the week at $0.74 per Lb. Week-on-week, Old Zinc Die Cast prices likewise witnessed decline on the Index. As of Thursday, May 1, 2025, the price of the commodity was $0.62 a pound, down from the previous week by 1.59%.

The prices of New Zinc Die Cast registered a decline of 1.33% from the previous week’s price of $0.75 per Lb. The price of the commodity ended the week at $0.74 per Lb. Also, Old Zinc Die Cast prices were down by 1.59% over the previous week.

USA Midwest

The price of New Zinc Die Cast decreased by 1.33% during the previous week. The price of Old Zinc Die Cast dropped 1.59% from the previous week's price of $0.63 per pound to $0.62 per pound by the end of the week.

USA West Coast

Throughout the week, the price of New Zinc Die Cast inched lower slightly by 1.33% to close at $0.74 per pound. Furthermore, there was marginal fall in the price of Old Zinc Die Cast according to the Index. The commodity's price was down from $0.63 per Lb to $0.62 per Lb.

Europe

New Zinc Die Cast's price was the same as it was the week before. At $800 per Tonne, the price remained unchanged week-on-week.
