SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) stated that recycling in the U.S. generated $117 billion in economic activity. Moreover it supports more than 534,000 jobs. The statement was released on the sidelines of the America Recycles Day celebrations on November 15, 2018.
According to ISRI, nearly 2 million people participated in last year’s America Recycles Day. The event resulted in collection of approximately 56 million pounds of recyclables. As per estimates, U.S. recyclers processed more than 130 million tons of material in 2017. This year’s celebrations too received widespread support and were marked by increased consumer participation. Nearly 80,000 people have signed the #BeRecycled pledge to recycle more materials.

The White House message released in connection with America Recycles Day urged its citizens and businesses to redouble their recycling efforts, with the ultimate aim of protecting its environment for future generations.
The America Recycles Day, organized by Keep America Beautiful and supported by nonprofits, companies, individuals and communities educates and motivates people to make recycling a part of their daily lives.
