California-headquartered Verdeco Recycling has announced that it is in the final stage of completion of works at its new PET recycling plant in the Vigo County Industrial Park I, Terre Haute, Indiana.

AUBURN (Scrap Monster): California-headquartered Verdeco Recycling has announced that it is in the final stage of completion of works at its new PET recycling plant in the Vigo County Industrial Park I, Terre Haute, Indiana. The company press release stated that building modifications are almost complete and almost 99% of the equipment are on site. The facility is scheduled to open on June 20th and is expected to reach full employment by end-September this year. This is the company’s second US facility after the one in South Gate, California.

The new plant is in close proximity to the greater Indianapolis region. The new facility will help to better serve the needs of existing customers. Moreover, it will help the company to add new customers to its portfolio from the entire Midwest region. The opening of the facility will turn out to be a new milestone in the growth of the company, widening its national footprint, added Ofer. It will reduce shipping costs substantially and increase the company’s reach to additional geographical locations.

The Terre Haute, Indiana plant will occupy the building previously owned by Garmong Development at the Vigo County Industrial Park, 10535 James Adams St. The new facility has a capacity to produce more than 60 million pounds of FDA-approved, food-grade recycled PET per year. The combined capacity, along with the existing California facility, will exceed 100 million pounds an year.

The new facility is expected to bring over 29 new jobs to the area, when fully operational. The number of job opportunities will increase further with plant expansion within a couple of years, noted Alex Ofer, the President of Verdeco Recycling Midwest. The decision on expansion plans will be taken in early-2017.

Rick Blakeslee, project manager at Verdeco stated that the company has invested significant capital in the plant in order to to ensure highest quality standards. The nearly $8 million investment covers new office buildings, utility upgrades, machinery preparation and equipment installation. The use of state-of-the-art proprietary PET-M recycling technology coupled with skilled local workforce will enable the company to deliver products of highest quality to its customers.

PET-M Recycling Technology

The PET-M recycling technology developed by Europe-based PTP Group, processes post-consumer PET into high quality food-grade resin. Instead of using high pressure and vacuums for extended periods of time, PET-M process uses a silicone-based modifying agent to restore physical and mechanical properties of post-consumer PET. The process involves several stages including drying, Extrusion: Modification and Degassing, Melt filtration and Pelletizing. The PET-M technology minimizes energy consumption and waste generation. The technology incorporates the most recent innovations in the field of polymer processing, including use of the most advanced machinery. The RPET resin manufactured through the process is widely used for food packaging and other PET applications.
