Initially, the NPSA initiative aims to deploy over 24 aggregators and 9,500 collectors, which in turn will result in collection of approximately 49,000 metric tons of plastic waste, with scope of further expansion over the forthcoming years. In addition to offering a cleaner and healthier environment, the initiative will also lead to creation of over 10,000 green jobs in the country.
Melissa Jones, Mission Director, USAID remarked that the new value chain will benefit small and medium scale enterprises, especially entry-level and semi-skilled workers. The new program will serve as a catalyst to drive increased collection and recycling rates, said Saadia Madsbierg, president of The Coca‑Cola Foundation.
