U.S. Steel Pennsylvania Operations Generated Huge Economic Impact

During the fiscal, the company employees contributed an estimated $3.4 million to local charities.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) announced that its Pennsylvania operations contributed nearly $3.6 billion to the local and state economy during fiscal year 2022. It must be noted that the steelmaker’s Pennsylvania operations comprise of its headquarters in Pittsburgh and sites in Braddock, Clairton, Fairless Hills, Munhall, and West Mifflin.

The report also noted that the company’s robust economic activity supported or sustained a total of 11,417 jobs.

This is as per the latest economic impact report released by the company. The study, commissioned by the company, was conducted by Parker Philips- a leading Erie-based consulting firm that specializes in economic impact analysis.

The total economic impact of $3.6 billion included $1.9 billion from direct impact and $1.7 billion in indirect impact. Also, the Pennsylvania operations generated value added impact of $1.9 billion. The 11,417 jobs include 3,703 direct and 7,714 indirect jobs. During the fiscal, the company employees contributed an estimated $3.4 million to local charities.

U.S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt noted that the company is deeply rooted in Pennsylvania, with over hundred years of operations. The company is thrilled to partner with communities that it serves, he added.
