U.S. Steel Attained Exceptional Safety Record

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster):  Pittsburgh-based leading U.S. steelmaker U.S. Steel thanked its employees for their hard work in helping the company in continuing to deliver highest safety standards in 2019. It recognized the United Steelworkers (USW) for engaging in various activities to ensure safety at workplaces.

Highlighting the company’s safety achievement in 2019, David B. Burritt, President and Chief Executive Officer noted that the company reported exceptional year-on-year improvements. The OSHA “Days Away” rate of 0.10 was seven times better than the industry average reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). In particular, U. S. Steel’s Tubular Operations and U. S. Steel Košice reported zero “Days Away From Work” cases during the previous year. Also, the company’s Total OSHA Recordable injury rate was almost three times better than the industry average.

Burritt noted that teh company is grateful to all its employees for the extraordinary safety performance in 2019. He also thanked the USW for their leadership in the effort. Meantime, Thomas M. Conway, president of the USW stated that the cooperative efforts between the union and the company will continue in 2020 and in the years to come.
