SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output reported marginal decline during the week ended on September 21, 2019 over the same week a year before. This is with reference to the latest weekly production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Also, the production for the week ended marginally lower upon comparison with the prior week.
The U.S. domestic raw steel production in the week ended September 21, 2019 totalled 1.809 million net tons (NT), while the capability utilization rates was 77.7%. It must be noted that the production had totalled 1.866 million NT at comparatively higher capacity utilization rate of 79.6% during the corresponding week in 2018. Meantime, the raw steel production during the week recorded marginal decline by 0.1% when compared with the prior week production of 1.811 million NT.

The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production by the U.S. totalled 70.768 million NT through the week ended September 21, 2019. The mill capability utilization rate averaged at 80.6% during this period. As per AISI data, the production had totalled only 68.321 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 77.5% during the corresponding year-to-date period in 2018.
The major producer was the Great Lakes region, which produced nearly 703,000 NT of crude steel. The production by the other regions in net tons is as follows: North East-197,000, Midwest-187,000, Southern-649,000 and Western-73,000.
