U.S. Raw Steel Output Surged During Most Recent Week

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 14.5% during the week ending on November 13, 2021, when matched with the comparable week in 2020. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.856 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 84.1%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.621 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 73.3% during the corresponding week a year before. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production too recorded marginal increase by 0.8% over the week. The production was 1.841 million NT during the week ended November 6, 2021.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 82.576 million NT through the week ending on November 13, 2021. This is up by 20.0% from the production which totalled 68.811 million NT during the same period in 2020. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 67.7% to 81.5% over the year.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 782,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 619,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-177, Midwest-203 and Western-75.
