U.S. Raw Steel Output Continued Strong Uptrend

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output recorded notable increase by 37.7% during the week ending on July 17, 2021, when matched with the comparable week in 2020. This is in accordance with the latest weekly domestic production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totalled 1.859 million net tons (NT). The domestic mill capability utilization rate was 84.1%. It must be noted that the production had totalled only 1.350 million NT at a much lower capacity utilization rate of 60.3% during the corresponding week in 2020. Meantime, the weekly crude steel production increased marginally by 0.4% over the week. The production was 1.852 million NT during the week ended July 10, 2021.

The cumulative adjusted year-to-date U.S. raw steel production totalled 50.787 million NT through the week ending on July 17, 2021. This is up by 17.8% from the production which totalled 43.114 million NT during the same period in 2020. The capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump from 66.7% to 79.6% over the year.

The leading producer was the Southern region, with an output of 803,000 net tons. The production by Great Lakes region stood at 632,000 net tons during the week. The production by other regions (in thousand net tons) is as follows: North East-146, Midwest-199 and Western-79.
