Tolko to Build Modern Wood Pellet Plant in High Level

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tolko Industries announced that it has entered into partnership with Pinnacle Renewable Energy to construct a state-of-the-art industrial wood pellet production plant in High Level, Alberta, Canada. The project, known as Northern Pellet Limited Partnership, will begin this month. The completion is expected during the end of second half of 2020, said the company news release.

According to partnership agreement, both Tolko and Pinnacle Renewable Energy will own 50% interest in the facility. The new facility is expected to have a run-rate production capacity of 170,000 to 200,000 metric tons per annum. The plant will help Tolko in significantly reducing its carbon footprint. In addition, it will also generate employment and contribute to the region’s economy.

Brad Thorlakson, President and CEO, Tolko noted that the partnership is the result of company’s efforts to diversify its business for the future. Furthermore, it is likely to bring many benefits to High Level. Robert McCurdy, CEO of Pinnacle Renewable Energy said that the expansion of its business relationship with Tolko will boost its production platform in Alberta. Meantime, Devin Dreeshen, Alberta’s Minister of Agriculture and Forestry highlighted that the project would offer dozens of new jobs for families in Alberta.

The plant, estimated to be built at a cost of $54 million, will feature modern technologies, including latest pollution control equipment. Moreover, it will stick to highest safety standards.
