Tolko Curtails Operations at Armstrong, Lumby and Heffley Creek Mills

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tolko Industries’ Armstrong, Lumby and Heffley Creek operations in British Columbia will face production curtailments, due to high log costs and weak market conditions.

According to company press release, Tolko’s Armstrong lumber, Armstrong plywood, and White Valley veneer operations will take downtime from August 17 to September 2, 2019.Also, Heffley Creek plywood and veneer operation will take downtime from August 24 to September 2, 2019. The curtailments are likely to impact more than 700 workers. The employees are already informed about the decision and managers will be always available to assist them, the press release said.

Troy Connolly, Vice President of Solid Wood, Tolko noted that the decisions are being taken with a lot of consideration. Although the company prefers to remain in operation, it also aims to manage the business responsibly and remain sustainable in the future, he said.

Meantime, the company will make all efforts to ensure that the decision cause minimal impact to its customers.
