SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): More than 90% of the Florence Copper Mine in Arizona has been built, according to Taseko Mines. The mine project is still on schedule to produce the first copper cathode by the end of this year, the company explained. The mine is anticipated to increase the company's overall copper production by about 120% when it is finished.
The company claims to have finished over 900,000 hours of project work without experiencing any environmental or reportable injuries. By successfully energizing the substation and drilling the injection and recovery wells as planned, the ramp-up process has reached a significant milestone.

Copper-rich solutions are pumped from underground and treated on-site using the mine's in-situ recovery method. Compared to conventional mining, this is anticipated to have less of an adverse effect on the environment.
Stuart McDonald, CEO of Taseko, commented on the situation, saying that given the possible 50% tariffs on US copper imports, now is a wonderful time to start a new copper mine in the US. He stated that Florence Copper will be the next significant domestic provider of copper cathode in the United States.
Florence Copper is situated in the Arizonan town of Florence, halfway between Phoenix and Tucson.
