SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tata Steel announced groundbreaking of expansion project at the Jamshedpur facility of its subsidiary, Tinplate Company of India Limited (TCIL). The ceremony was attended by T.V. Narendran, MD & CEO, Tata Steel. Hemant Soren, Chief Minister of Jharkhand graced the occasion as Chief Guest and performed the groundbreaking ceremony at the site.
Tata Steel plans to invest over INR 2,245 crore in the first phase, which will be followed by subsequent phases on investment. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the expansion project was signed almost two to three years back. The initial phase of expansion project will deliver additional capacity of 3 lakh TPA, thus lifting TCIL’s total capacity to 7.15 lakh TPA by end-2026. It must be noted that TCIL’s current capacity stands at 4.15 lakh TPA.
The expansion project will see construction of state-of-the-art facilities with high levels of automation, so as to minimize man-machine interface. They will feature enhanced safety features that meet EU environmental standards.
Established in 1920, TCIL has completed over hundred years of operation. The expansion project marks the next phase in its journey towards sustainability and growth.
