SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Leading Indian steelmaker Tata Steel has been recognized by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) as 2023 Steel Sustainability Champion. The announcement was made by the global steel trade body’s Special General Meeting of the Board of Members held yesterday in Vienna, Austria.
This is the sixth straight year of recognition for the company. Tata Steel has been selected as Champion in every year since the launch of the programme in 2018. The prestigious award is in recognition of the company’s efforts to remain fully committed to the principles of sustainability, while continuing to remain as a world-class steel producer.

The winners are selected after thorough evaluation of data provided by various companies on different sustainability indicators such as material efficiency, environmental management systems, lost time injury frequency rate, employee training, investment in new processes and products, and economic value distributed.

Narendran, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Steel noted that the recognition as a Sustainability Champion for the sixth consecutive year by worldsteel reinforces its commitment to sustainable development. Tata Steel is proud to work together with the global steel industry in addressing the challenges of climate change, he added.
