Stora Enso to Invest Euro 80 Million at Imatra Mills in Finland

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso announced its decision to invest Euro 80 million at its Imatra mills, Finland. The investment aimed at centralising and modernizing the mill’s wood handling capacity, is expected to boost the company’s premium packaging board production capabilities. Stora Enso will start the investment in Q1 next year. It is expected to complete in third quarter 2022.

The investment will modernise the wood handling process in Imatra. In addition, the entire process will be centralized in one of the existing wood yards. The project also covers installation of a new, third debarking line. The more efficient debarking line will result in reduced consumption of water in process and lower environmental impacts. The investment also features significant improvements to chip handling systems and modifications to the existing wood yard structure.

The company press release stated that the centralized and modernized wood handling capacity will result in improved stability and efficiency.

Hannu Kasurinen, Executive Vice President, Packaging Materials division at Stora Enso said that efficient and stable wood handling capacity is fundamental to both pulp and board production.

The annual production capacity of Imatra mills is estimated at around 1.195 million tonnes of packaging board. The mill employs nearly 900 people.
