SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso announced significant progress in rebuilding its Skoghall board mill in Sweden. The project is mainly intended at boosting the production capacity of board machine 8 (BM 8), in order to cater to the rising demand for sustainable packaging.
Valmet has agreed to supply the board machine. Although the value of the order was not disclosed, it is estimated to be around Euro 30-40 million. The project is planned to be executed in two phases and is scheduled to be completed during the second half of 2023, subject to environmental permits.
The delivery comprises major upgrades to the stock preparation system and various improvements in several parts of the board machine. The contracts include delivery and installation of machines and equipment. The project will see debottlenecking of one of the existing production lines, by utilizing the scheduled maintenance breaks.
The investment will drive profitable growth in segments such as liquid packaging board and coated unbleached kraft. It will boost the packaging board production capacity at the facility by around 100,000 tonnes per annum to 900,000 tonnes per annum. In addition, it is expected to further improve the site’s flexibility and competitiveness.
