Stora Enso Declared Investment in Paper Machine Conversion at Oulu, Finland

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso Oyj announced its decision to invest approximately Euro 1 billion at its Oulu, Finland site towards conversion of idle paper machine into a high-volume consumer board production line. The investment, over the period from 2022 to 2025, is in line with the company’s growth strategy in renewable packaging. The converted machine is expected to become operational in early-2025.

The annual production capacity is estimated at around 750,000 tonnes of consumer board, catering the food and beverage packaging industry, mainly in Europe and North America, said the company press release.

Commenting on the development, Annica Bresky, President and CEO, Stora Enso noted that the conversion will help the company drive its revenue growth and build its market share. The investment is expected to create nearly 300 new direct jobs and around 1,500 indirect jobs, Bresky added.

The new line is expected to consume approximately one million cubic metres of pulp wood per year.
