The U.S. domestic raw steel production in the week ended June 1, 2019 totaled 1.890 million net tons (NT).
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. weekly raw steel output reported significant surge during the week ended on June 1, 2019 over the previous week. This is with reference to the latest weekly production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Meantime, the weekly production recorded slight decline upon comparison with the week before that.
The U.S. domestic raw steel production in the week ended June 1, 2019 totaled 1.890 million net tons (NT), at a capability utilization rate of 81.2%. The production had totaled only 1.809 million NT at much lower capacity utilization rate of 77.2% during the corresponding week last year. Meantime, the raw steel production during the week edged lower marginally by 0.1% when compared with the prior week production of 1.892 million NT.
The adjusted year-to-date raw steel production by the U.S. totaled 41.235 million NT through the week ended June 1, 2019 at a capacity utilization rate of 81.6%. AISI reported 6.8% jump in production over the previous year. The mill capability utilization rate too recorded notable jump. As per AISI data, the production had totaled only 38.842 million NT at a capability utilization rate of 76.6% during the corresponding year-to-date period in 2018.
The major producer was the Great Lakes region, which produced nearly 741,000 NT of crude steel. The production by the region accounted for just over 39% of the total U.S. weekly production. The production by the other regions in thousands of net tons is as follows: North East-203, Midwest-189, Southern-685 and Western-72.
