SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that U.S. steel mills recorded stronger shipment volumes in December 2025, reflecting steady demand and improving market conditions.

According to AISI data, domestic mills shipped 7,454,338 net tons during the month, representing a 3.5 percent increase compared with 7,205,093 net tons shipped in December 2024. On a month-on-month basis, shipments rose 5.4 percent from 7,073,659 net tons delivered in November 2025.

For the full year 2025, U.S. steel shipments totaled 90,953,066 net tons, marking a solid 4.9 percent increase from 86,698,917 net tons shipped in 2024. The year-on-year growth highlights continued recovery across key steel-consuming sectors, including construction, automotive, and manufacturing.

AISI’s product-level comparison shows mixed performance across flat-rolled categories. Shipments of corrosion resistant sheet and strip increased by 4 percent year-on-year, while hot rolled sheet and strip posted a modest 1 percent gain. In contrast, cold rolled sheet and strip shipments declined by 4 percent compared with full-year 2024 levels.

Industry participants view the overall shipment growth as a positive indicator for U.S. steel production momentum heading into 2026, amid cautious optimism over pricing and demand.
